Congleton Park has once again been recognised as one of the finest green spaces in the country, having retained its prestigious Green Flag Award, an internationally recognised accolade for parks and green spaces. This year, the park achieved high scores, allowing Congleton to maintain its Green Flag status and secure another review in 2025.

Congleton Town Council and Ansa Environmental Services are responsible for maintaining the park, along with other vital green spaces in the town. In addition to retaining the Green Flag, Congleton Park has been re-awarded the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for its exceptional management and promotion of the park’s historic features. This year marks the park’s 17th Green Flag and 4th Heritage Flag.

The rigorous judging process for the Green Flag includes a review of management plans, a site visit, and an assessment by a “mystery shopper” who evaluates the park’s quality and maintenance. The award reflects the ongoing dedication and commitment to excellence shown by the park’s team of staff, volunteers, work experience students, and contractors.

Glen Williams, Chair of Friends of Congleton Park, said: “We are incredibly proud to have been re-awarded the Green Flag Award this year. This recognition highlights the tireless efforts of our entire park team—from staff and volunteers to students and contractors—who work together to ensure our park remains a beautiful, well-maintained space for everyone to enjoy.”

Ruth Burgess, Streetscape Development Manager, added: “We take great pride in Congleton’s many green open spaces, especially those maintained by the Town Council. Keep Britain Tidy has once again recognised our commitment to maintaining Congleton Park to the highest standard, ensuring it remains a jewel in our community.”

Friends of Congleton Park continue to work closely with the Town Council to organise events, such as the popular weekly Summer Brass Band concerts and the celebration of 100 years of Congleton War Memorial Hospital. These events bring the community together for fun-filled activities and stalls for all ages. The Friends group also plays a vital role in fundraising for new initiatives and improvements, with the installation of a new table tennis table being one of the recent highlights, offering hours of enjoyment for park visitors.

Congleton Park’s continued success is a testament to the hard work and community spirit that make it a beloved green space for all.
